I currently have NO wiring for any electronics on the boat, including lights. All that is wired is the control box for the outboard.

I need to wire a few switches for the lights (18ft, only needs front red/green and rear white), the horn, and a bilge pump.

I am good with this stuff, and can do it no problem, but was am new to boats and wanted some suggestion for a good fuse box / distribution block to use and a source for it.

Is it a good idea to install a battery main switch at the battery too?

thanks!

kevin

Re: General Wiring Layout

Heres what i did get-
Switches
1 momentary (on)- off this goes for the horn
1 on off- for the bilge pump even if automatic.
1 DPDT for the lights

A 30 amp or better
Circuit Breaker

This circuit breaker should be placed no father than 7 inches from the battery.

Fuse panel-
Fuse panel
1.Wire the hot lead from the circuit breaker to the top of this panel.
2. Place a fuse in it then a wire to the switch.
3. From switch to the accessory.
4. From accessory to the bottom bar.
5. From bottom bar back to battery.

You will need two other things.
A color chart and a wire size calculator.
Chart
Red is alway positive for the new chart yellow is DC ground you can use black but it is also used for A/C ground.
Grey is for the lights horn is oranage and bilge pump is brown.

Crimp all wires as this is required, solder later if you want. :)

Please look here under technical information!

Good luck.
