Generic Question: Cooling Outdrive without house or hose nearby

Pretty basic, I haven't found anything that can accomplish this.

I live in a small townhome community and we have a dedicated "parking" spot for aux./rec. vehicles of which I am the only one. It is not near a hose outlet of any kind. Is there something I can buy that I can fill up with 20-30gallons of water and pump it through the OD with a hose or something?

I am willing to spend a little bit on this idea but not too much. Some of the pumps I have seen pump a ridiculous amount like 200+gpm's which I definately DO NOT need.

Thanks in advance.

Hey--well yea I just went through this bc I thought I didn't have access to a hose at my storage facility. Turns out I do so I never made anything or tested but here are my numbers:

From a water hose that I used on a 3.0L Merc
10-15 seconds to fill a gallon bucket at half open water spigot
=.06 to .1 gps
=3.6 to 6 gpm
=216 to 360 gph.

I was going to use a cheapo 55gallon plastic drum in my truck bed, with a 400-500 gph submersible bilge style pump hooked up to my car battery. That would give you about 10 minutes of testing. You might also be able to start a siphon, but don't let the hose fall out.

Are you just wanting to pump water through the drive to flush it or are you wanting to start and run the engine?? If your wanting to run the engine your going to need a lot more than 20-30 gallons. What drive is it?

Welcome to iboats!

Without knowing exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish, I can only suggest that you make friends with someone who has a water spigot at their home/business and drive the boat there. You will only be out your cost of fuel. Seems like a LOT less work than hauling water to your site, and buying a transfer pump to get it to the drive. Good luck!

I suppose this makes the most sense. Thanks anyway.

Ive used a plastic garbage can with a spigot fitted to the bottom. I guess you would need a way to haul it to your boat though.

You're as bad as my wife...

Me: I'm gonna run to the store, need anything while I'm there?

Wife: Wouldn't it be easier to drive?
