to ice. I have 2 boats outside, double tarped and covered. They are supported
with posts, but with a heavy snow, some pockets of snow will form.

With the heavy snow forming pockets, and then heavy rain, and then freezing
temps, the end result could be very heavy and very solid ice chunks.

I was able to clear the slush off just before the freezing stage, and I am sure
that otherwise, the about to be ice chunks would have stretched the tarp
and cover, or maybe ripped through them.

Maybe too late, for some.

Duly noted and appreciated,

I'm out there a broomin and a shoveling everytime another load of that miserable white frozen dust gets loosed on us poor earthbound bipeds.
They knew I didn't have no shed put up yet!

I seem to be lucky enough to get it gone when it is easily pushed off, sofar.
I have ladders under the tarps to support the slopes on either side so the stuff also ski's off on its own.
but when the wetter stuff gets on there it can be a mess to get off or out
if you don't do it right then.
When it gets inside and melts and freezes again it cracks and pushes and destroys just about anything it comes in contact with, so yes,....good advice.

With all the snow we have had this year it has been a losing battle. I just have 2 heavy canvas covers i put on the boat and let the snow pile up now. never had any damage, keep the bow up and any water that does get through drains out. Have about one and a half feet of snow currently on top. I wish global warming would kick in so I don't have to deal with this anymore!!!

good advise i think too.

i broom it off after every snow too. even in the middle of a snow event if there's a lot of snow coming down. that snow or when it turns to ice is heavy too.

i've always wondered if i was the only one who used to covers. don't look like it. i started using two after an ice storm that took forever to melt away last year. with two covers, there's hope that ya may be able to go between the two covers and break up the ice from the inside of the top one. also, first chance the top cover becomes light enough to get it off. ya can remove it and still be covered by the fresh cover underneath...

Guess I'm lucky so far. I have enough pitch where the snow slides off. It hasn't got above freezing since December except for maybe 2 or 3 days. So far, I don't have an ice problem,,,,,,,,,,,just lots of snow. 44" for January which is a record for my area in Mansfield.

I use ladders, boards, plywood and anything else handy, Then a roll of heavy Black plastic and tuk-tape it to the boards .Then I cover with a tarp. The black stuff is completely water proof and helps to melt ice whenever the sun comes out. Here it can get to 40 below and 4' of snow. I do sweep it off once in a while.
