Re: Get the boat in the garage

You got me there, I now feel ashamed. I must admit I had to read the low profile jack idea a couple times before I got the point. The cool part is inventing the idea, building it, then letting buddies borrow it while you stand back with the look of a proud pappy in your eye as they marvel at your work. Of course the whole time you're also drinking their beer.

That is the way it's done. The trailer dolly would raise the trailer 5" and that would compound the problem. The beer part will make it fun if your buddies buy the beer.

Our Automatic opener, if you pull the cord to detach from the track you can push the door up a few extra inches, might be just that simple!

...or, jackhammer out two 3 inch deep trenches (ok, make it 4...) the length of your garage floor at the width of your trailer's track. Sheeesh - how simple is that? :D

I am thinking this would be a perfect time to bring up the advantages of living on the lake...then you could store the boat on a lift at your dock, and forget putting it in the garage altogether. So tell your wife the house is for sale...you are moving to the lake because the garage door at this house is just too dang small!

Simple in its elegance, elegant in its simplicity.

Re: Get the boat in the garage

Get a wooden furniture mover w/ wheels of coarse ,the type they use to move couches fridges etc, . Put the furniture mover under the wheel of your tongue jack, lift boat off ball, now lower tongue jack down as far as it will go while still on furniture mover. This will drop the bow of the boat as low as you need to go . Now just push boat into garage on mover. I use these movers to scoot my snowmobiles around on the garage floor for storage , cleaning etc with hardly any effort. The mover is just a rectangular frame of 2x4's with heavy duty wheels on swivels

The OP's problem is that the jack doesn't go low enough, not that it doesn't have a wheel. Doing this would make the problem worse... The options are limited, either move the jack, or use my method with a floor jack and don't even use the tongue jack.

That's the best idea yet

I live on a lake but even in Washington State we have winters. I come up with a real solution that all of you will be envious of: 1. divorce the wife. 2. sell the boat 3. sell the house 4. Find a very, very wealthy woman about 35 years old that has a 100' + yacht on the French Riveria and live happily ever after. Now isn't that a real "Happy Ending"?
