I have a 1969 85 hp Evinrude and I'm looking for any help/advice in getting her up and running. She turns over well and have good compression. I plan to order a service manual tomorrow as well as new spark plugs and wires, carb rebuild kit* (I need two) , a new impeller**, new fuel lines, new condensors and coils. Am I missing anything?

I'll throw all that on, add lube to the lower drive, grease all linkages, check for frayed or brittle wires, clean the fuel pump*** and add an inline fuel filter to my lines, a new fuel line and most likely a new tank. I'm also replacing the steering controls as mine are frozen and the engine control cables for good measure (~$30? why wouldn't I)

What's a good sized battery to have for this motor? I'm only using it for starting running and running/anchor lights for watching fireworks on the 4th. I may decide to have a VHF radio or even a fm radio some point down the road. Will this motor's stator provide enough power to keep a battery charged?

Can you help me with the following?
*I can find carberatur rebuild kits but no new floats!
**I can't find a new waterpump or waterpump rebuild kits for this year just impellers
***New fuel pump, again a part that I can't find.

My first step would be to remove the cylinder heads. As I have stated before! A compression test can be very deceiving. Make sure you have a sound engine before replacing parts, or spending money. A good engine will cost you two head gaskets. A poor showing will save you hundred's.

Yep already checked it, sleeves, pistons etc were signed off on by the friendly neighborhood mechanic. So is there anything that I'm missing?

I have the part numbers, I just can't find a supplier for a waterpump and fuel pump rebuild kit or carb floats for this model engine.

A '69 has battery CD igniton. It does have points, but no condensers, and only one coil.

Any Evinrude or Johnson dealer will have parts available....if they are available. Or on-line at ishopmarine.com
