So my boat has two gauge spots. One has my speedometer in it, the other is blank. When you look at the back, it has a yellow (was probably white 25 years ago) cup, and a metal "U" plate. I can't tell what's holding what on? I need to get the black plastic cover out, but the gauge is a 2.25" so I need to cut a hole in it, then reattach. The depth gauges I believe are pretty deep, so the whole cup will have to go. But I looked around under there for a while before I took the following pictures, and I couldn't see how it's all held together.

The u-shaped bracket holds it in. Remove that and the gauge will lift out from the front.

Why stand on your head to do this. Remove the entire panel and work on it in your shop. There are four screws (one in each corner).
