One more thing... I noticed that I had the throttle cable set a little tight, with a little experimentation, we are now more easily able to make small/smooth adjustments to the speed of the boat.

We ski here 12 months a year. I had a CVX16 with a hopped up 140 Evinrude I ran for many years. I had a 19 and 21 pitch prop. With a 19 I could pull two 200 pound barefooters with a deepwater start with a full boat with no problem. I really don't think a 21 is that big of deal for the type of skiing you do. First and foremost order a professional quality slalom ski rope. It will last you forever and the cheap Walmart ones have so much stretch they are a big part of your problem and they rot pretty quick and they will get you hurt. You will never learn some techniques with a rope that slingshots you once your are up or stretches when you really need to rely of an even pull coming of your "elbow in the water" slalom turn. When it stretches the boat gains speed the rope tightens the boat slows down and then it starts all over again

Other than that you are too far back on the knee board.. Want to stop the bounce move forward. I use one sometimes to start off. I can sit on it and get up to 34 to barefoot with no bounce if you are far enough forward.

Try something different. Slow down a little. Take the strap loose and try to stand up. Take a skateboard stance. Its a lot of fun.

Thanks for the advice kahuna123!

We did get a quality ski rope and immediately found ourselves getting better/more stable pulls.

You state that I am too far back on the knee board. The board has a molded foam knee pad that resists attempts by the rider to move to a more forward position to reduce rope/board bounce.

I've watched some 'how-to' videos online which helped me to understand some of the boarding-related issues our group has encountered. Have an experienced knee boarder show you the ways to operate the pulling boat as well as ride the knee board safely and skillfully.

My 10 year old son loves it. He started doing 360 spins on his second run! Now our biggest problem is getting our turn.

First you need flat water. Chop just makes it harder. The boat needs to maintain speed. Not on and off the throttle. Constant. A 20 ft with a 200 should have zero issues with that. Keep the trim almost all the way down. A little "plowing" is a good thing. The boat will not get pulled around as much. You don't need to go very fast on a board. Swing way out and get a good pull back into the wake. You should easily be able to clear the other wake. lean way back when you land. You never want to let the front of the board hit first. You will do a faceplant with a very quick stop and your neck will be sore for days.
360 in the air. Swing out to the right side of the boat. Get the rope around you and hold the handle with your left hand at your left side. ( here go the armchair quarterbacks) hold the rope with your right hand as it comes from around your back. As you get air coming across the wake let go of the rope with your right and you will do a 360 in the air. When you do this trick you have to go big or not at all.

Barefoot. First you need a good rope that will not stretch. You have to sit on the board with you legs in front of you. The only way I have been able to do this is just when I start to sit on the board the boat has to be in gear. That give you something to balance against. You need really flat water to learn. Later on you will be able to take some chop and I can cross the wakes. You must be far enough forward on the board or it will bounce way before you get to speed. I think it is much easier just outside the right wake as the water right behind the boat has a lot of prop wash and is not as able to maintain you weight as easy. Get to 34 and get you heels in. Shoulder length apart and just ease up. You really only ski on the instep back of your feet. Its easier than you think. 34 not 40. I got hurt bad being pulled too fast. Too fast and you will not have control. You are gonna fall and its a very fast fall. My first time it was so fast I didn't get my eyes closed. A barefoot suit is the only way to ski period. Its a wetsuit made for skiing. It keeps you warm. Has padding and is water tight in all the right places and acts as a life vest.

A few things to think about, Smart tabs, and a prop with stern lift. Some people dont like the wake from smart tabs but I dont find it that bad. Smart tabs are nothing short of AWESOME for getting your boat up on plane fast and keeping it there with slow speed. I can do 16-20 with very little speed drop with the tabs. Also a prop can make a big difference as well. My boat has far more bow lift with an Enertia then with the HighFive. With the tabs and Enertia I can stay on plane at 18-20mph and with the HighFive 16-18 mph depending on load. The best I could do with out tabs and the stock Black Max prop was about 20mph and stay on plane. Also there is really no need to trim up with someone in tow, it just makes it harder to stay on plane.

The LAST thing a Carlson Ski machine needs is smart tabs. Why take a very well designed boat and ruin it. That boat will plane now at 12. Plus it has plenty of power to pull up anything. Usually smart tabs are for poorly balanced boats with way to much rear weight. Usually with IO's cause they were cheaper than outboards and showroom price was more important than performance.

Big Kahuna go back and watch the first video, the driver is doing a VERY poor job with speed control. A well setup boat would NOT have that problem, sure its easy to say its was the driver fault but the fact is with that load the boat should of held speed, and it did not at 1:30 into the video the boat just about drops off plane, so tell me again how tabs would ruin it?

Boats have a balance point. Look at any tournament ski boat and the motor is midships for that reason. They have pumps and bladder bags to add weight in the rear to make a bigger wake at low wakeboard speed. The further back that point is the more " rear end in the water" is required to keep the boat on plane. Hence smart tabs are giving you that. The balance point of a 20 ski machine is much different than your situation. That's an outboard that weighs much less than your inboard and there's much more glass removing water back there.
They are just learning. What I am sure was a HUGE improvement on your boat won't help them. That boat was designed very well for what they are using it for. They just need some practice.
