Hello everyone

I have a new Glastron 195sx with a 4.3 volvo. I can't get it up to the marina for another 2 weeks. Here in Indiana the nights are unusually cold for this time of year. They have and will continue to drop to just around freezing.(32) What if anything can I do to make sure I have no problems? Or is this temp not going to cause any damage? I was thinking of wraping a blanket around the engine. Would this help?

Thanks in advance.
Jeff

When in doubt, use a couple of 100 watt light bulbs in the engine bilge, plug them in, ofcourse

hammlfan, run your boat on the muffs until it warms up. Take a gallon of RV anti-freeze and tape a piece of garden hose to it. Replace the water hose on the muffs with the one attached to the gallon of antifreeze. Have someone hold the gallon of antifreeze above the stern and fire the motor up. You should see the antifreeze returning out the exhaust just like the water was a minute ago. The minute the antifreeze empties from the gallon jug, shut the motor down. (If you want to winterize it yourself, remove the spark arrestor and spray a can of fogging oil in the carb during this phase)

Remove the brass plugs on each side of the exhaust manifold and the ones in the middle of the block. The RV antifreeze should run out of all four plugs.

Remove the spark plugs and spray some fogging oil in each cylinder. Replace the spark plugs. Replace the spark arrestor on the Carb. Change the crankcase oil and grease all pivot points on your outdrive. Make sure that the outdrive is in the down position. Remove the battery, charge and store inside for the winter. Call the Marina and tell them nevermind. Total cost, about $50.00..

If you are doing it yourself I would change the crankcase oil before the fogging, it's always nice to fire her up and let the fresh oil go through for a bit. I would also change the water/fuel separator and replace the lube in the sterndrive but then we've gone a bit beyond the original question. The lights are good but please make sure they are secure and can't fall or swing and break....sparks in the bilge!!!!
