Re: Getting flywheel off

Crankshaft and flywheel bore must always be dry, with no oil or any other substance on them prior to reinstalling the flywheel. NEVER coat with anything, period!

Can you explain why?

All I can tell you is that all the OEM shop manuals call for the taper and bore to be clean and dry, and free of all oil. I suspect if the bore is lubed, it might allow the flywheel to rock against the key, eventually shearing it, which is very bad indeed. If the bore is clean, dry, and undamaged, you can always get the flywheel off using an appropriate puller with Gr 8 bolts and washers.

Thanks. I think I've figured it out. With the anti-sieze I can only get 100lbs of torque with at standard length 1/2 drive torgue wrench. With it clean and dry I go right to 120lbs no problem.
