A friend of mine had a 14 ft Klamath with a 1969 9.5 and it did just fine. There's nothing wrong with this match. It should troll real nice too.

I have an old 14 ft aluminum v hull that was given to me as a project boat - was sitting in a field abandoned for the past 12 yrs. It has a drain plug in the floor, which I understand is pre 1972. It has a 1980 Evinrude 7.5 hp. For a small fee, all works well now (trailer, too !). It will go 15.9 mph by GPS with myself, my 8 y/o son, 6 gallon tank, and battery ! Anyone know what year and type of boat this is ? It has a small seat in the bow and two other seats. Thanks in advance.I'll try to follow up with a picture.

I agree that the motor is probably running on one cylinder. Either that or the high speed jet is fouled.

If your Starcraft is an early seventies, open bow type, with three rows of seats in it, I would offer the comment that I had a friend with one years ago. He had an Evinrude 18hp on his and it performed very nicely. I don't think your boat is going to go too fast even if it is running properly - I suspect it will plane with a light load, but not much over that. Replacing the motor with an 18 or 25 hp motor would probably be a better match.

I had a 14 foot Sears boat, put on a 10-hp Johnson and replaced it with a 18 HP Evinrude with a 9x9 prop this was great with the larger motor; 10-Hp was too small although it didn't struggle, just didn't go fast.....

I had a 9.5 on my 16ft starcraft with wood floors, and it ran 11mph, they respond well to a carb cleaning and rebuild. I have been told they are over raided, they are more like 8hp. but they run nice when they are right.
