With the AV plate on the motor parallel with the keel, where is it? Even? Up xx amount or below xx amount?

And the bracket is about 26" long (from transom to motor)?

The AV plate is about 1 3/4" above the keel.

The O/S bracket is 28" from the transom to the center of the plate the motor is bolted to.

Re: Getting rid of porpoise/getting boat dialed in.

Glad you said the bracket was 5" above the bottom of the keel cause if it wasn't it would drag in front of the engine, creating turbulence that could lead to cavitation among other things.

don't know where you get 3500# Let's see:
150hp 450#
30 gal fuel 200
4 fishermen 1000
Tackle 500
Beer 750....oops too much beer. Grin
Boat 1500 on the outside

Yeah I guess you would be running that heavy.

Nothing wrong with your 45-46 with that rig.

On your question about speed, you would need a step in the hull; lifting strakes or better still a pad (water ski) to run on to reduce the wetted surface, hence water resistance hence more speed and proportionally more pitch in the prop. And then a little lift to get some of the lower unit out of the water.

Sounds to me like your only problem is deciding to use the trim as it was intended.....to trim out the boat, and if you have to tuck it in a little to stop porposing, then tuck her in baby and don't look back. Just takes a second and the trim switch is right under your thumb.

What are you griping about?????

Mark

F150 485#
Yamaha T8 kicker 110#
50 gallons of gas 300#
dual batteries 100#
2 guys 500#
boat dry 1750#
misc. gear 500#

I'm probably closer to 37-3800lbs.

I'm happy with 45-46,I just want to get her fine tuned.

The keel does have what the dealer calls a pad. The keel goes from a 14 deg. vee to a triangular flat spot the last foot or so of the keel. Is this what your refering too?

I'm really not griping, like I said I just want to get her fine tuned. Its kinda fun to run alongside small runabouts and ski boats. They get a funny look on their face when they try to pull away but can't. I guess they don't like not being able to outrun a "fishing" boat. :D

OK, it seems the motor may be mounted a bit low as we suspected. Especially for a 15 1/4" diameter prop with 28" of setback and a 5" step.

What's the top rpms (average load) with the 17"?

On your response to my word "pad" yes that's what I'm talking about. At 45mph you are well on it and doing your thing.....Grin
--------------
"Its kinda fun to run alongside small runabouts and ski boats. A lotta fun. I have this piece of junk looking tin can bass boat but boy is it fun to run her.....and today something great happened. Will post it separately.

Mark

Mark

I'm no expert, but I would think the engine to be about 3" too low....if you have a 5" step, 28" back..????

Hey 496.

If you want to post baby, post. We are having fun and if we don't want to look at your pics we can look elsewhere or go to bed. Besides, without pics we can only guess what you are talkinig about. Once you see a pic, things get into reality real fast.

This ain't like the tractor forums where you talk to......well never mind.

Mark

Mark.

After only about 25 tries I finally figured it out. Anyways, the first pic is the O/S bracket and the second is the pad on the bottom.

Up, up and away we go!

Mod1 knew exactly where we were going with this conversation.

45 mph, 17", 5800 = about 5% slip. Pretty darn good if the numbers are right. I'd be willing to bet that with tweaking we'd get a good 19 to work.

Following that same guideline if we got a 19 to spin even 5600 youd gain a tad over 3 mph. At 5800 the big 5 0 would be behind you, not in front.

Ok,so whats the next step? If I need to raise the motor, how do I go about doing it? It weighs almost 500lbs and though I'm a big guy,I can't manhandle it into place.

The motor has 3 more adjustment holes left, about 1 1/2".

Have you ran it since you raised it?

I haven't raised the motor yet. I talked to the dealer and when they do the 10 hour service, they'll raise it for me. The problem is the dealer is almost 60 miles away.If I start tinkering and its not right, I'll have to trailer it back and forth to the dealer.

Re: Getting rid of porpoise/getting boat dialed in.

One way to jack has been mentioned herein (not by me) and that is to use the trailer dolly jack and jack the trailer out from under the engine with the skeg sitting on the concrete floor. If the jack runs out of room, put somehting under the wheel to get more height. Be sure and chock fore and aft, both tires.

$10 worth of 2x4's as an additional support frame for insurance wouldn't hurt and if you had some beer and could coax a couple of your neighbors over to hold on for a few minutes it would really put the icing on the cake.

Mark
