Getting rid of VRO pump

I have an 86 evinrude 110. THe back of the vro pump housing is cracked letting oil ooze everywhere. I want to completely take it off and replace with a fuel pump. I guess I am just looking in all of the wrong places or asking the wrong questions. Can someone tell me what fuel pump I need to get?

I am not trying to hijack your thread here, but I am also interested in the answer. I have recently had a cylinder go bad
(http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=340999) and although I have not correctly diagnosed root cause yet....
I have been trying to determine potential root causes. In talking to my local Marina, the tech there said something wild
like 'based on his experience 80% of engines with oil/gas VRO pumps end up resulting some form of major mechanical failure' and his
suggestion was to replace the VRO with a straight fuel only pump, so I am curious to see the answers you get back on this
thread.

I run a '87 70hpVRO Johnson with the oil blocked off & just use the fuel pump with pre-mix

I replaced my VRO pump with a 1982 OMC replacement premix pump. Couple of adaptions to mount it and all is well.
VRO wrongly gets the blame for a multitude of things that cause your motor to explode !!!
I changed to premix when the fuel side of my VRO started to fail.
Replacement VRO / OMS pump.....$508
Replace with a premix pump $82
I used one from a V6 model. (Check the 150hp or more models)

$426 to spend on beer...........Priceless !!!!

Spencroy: I think your tech is being conservative. Any engine he touch's has a problem. Alway's try to find a tech at least older then your engine.

one cylinderr going bad has nothing to do with the VRO... VRO mixes oil/fuel and dumps it in a fuel manifold that gets distributed to the carbs... if it was the vro probably all your cylinders would've been dammaged or you would see some kind of a damage....

its very easy to blame it on the VRO when you dont know what your doing.... find a new mecanic

my 120 j 1989 has the original VRO and still going strong...
