I just purchased a 2000 30hp merc that was run in salt water. It appears that it was well cared for, but it does have some salt/sand still in the motor. Every time i run the motor a little piece partially clogs the telltale. How can i get this out?

You imply that corrosion is clogging the telltale. How do you know it is not dirt, weeds, grass....

Just run it on the flusher with fresh water, and the junk should come out. They are made to run in salt water. Don't forget to hose off the block and wiring. Try to keep water out of the carb intakes...

Thanks Chris. I removed the hose that comes from the block to the telltale and it looked like someone poored sea salt in it. The grain was to big to pass through the telltale hole. I plan to run it on the muffs without hooking the telltale up so maybe those big pieces can pass.

That's sand picked up by rototilling with the motor.

hope it helps
