I've read thru the searches and FAQs for info an most of my questions have been answered EXCEPT one main one... I'm looking to use a threaded rod & washer type pulled (avoiding the slide hammer type) per the "Defeated" thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=364003 I'm gathering the bearing has never been removed an not sure how easily it will come out.
My question: utilizing the threaded rod approach, the puller will have to get support on the outer side to put the threaded rod in tension to pull the bearing. That said, have any of you using this method o bearing removal run into any problems using the bell housing to 'back' against? Could this put undue stress on the bell housing pivot pins? Would it be recommended (I'm hoping I don't have to) remove the bell housing and then support on the gimbal ring/gimbal housing? Any thoughts, input, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
