Gimbal bearing replacement... replace seal behind it?

I've done alot of reading here on how to pull the bearing, when to pull it, etc. I have mine out and per my oem manual it says to pull the bearing seal behind it as well. I've not seen anyone here mention that they've done this.

Is there any reason to replace this seal? I did not have water intrusion. I'm just replacing an old part.

I pulled my bearing on Sunday and noticed that my seal had a tear in it, so I pulled it for replacement also. Prices ranged from $14 to ~$23. For that kind of money I'd rather replace it than have to take that whole mess apart again.

What if there is a defect in the seal (created by the fingers of the bearing puller) that you don't see?
