Sort of a foolish question... how can I tell if the gimbal has fully seated? I assumed I would hear the sound change when it was driven all the way at the back, but I guess my ears are not as good as I thought because I don't hear anything different. I (stupidly) did not measure any distances with the old bearing in place before removing it.

I have the alignment bar and cup to drive the new bearing in. The bar is solid metal and not drilled for the cup, so instead I used a PVC pipe over the alignment bar and hammered the back of that to press the bearing in (with the cup on the alignment bar, up against the bearing).

Is there supposed to be a gap between the bearing and the seal? Right now I can easily pass a finger in the space between the bearing and the seal. I really don't know if it is all the way in or if I need to keep whacking it (however, the bearing has not moved with the last few hammer blows)

Ideas?
This is for a DP-SM setup.

I just did mine this year. If you can get a finger between the back side of the bearing and the housing, I think it needs to go in a little bit further. I experienced the same while doing mine and hit it with a small sledge a few more times and it closed the gap. Hopefully you greased the exterior of the bearing well.
