Gimbal Ring Install

Gimbal ring broke and I'm installing a new one and trying with all my might to put the new ring onto the gimbal housing without removing the bell housing/bellows. My problem, I'm trying to get the steering pin that goes through the top of the gimbal ring to the steering lever, into place but it is not wanting to slide from the underside of the splined orifice up into position. Question is if anyone here knows if that pin is ABLE to be slid through from the bottom or if the pin NEEDS to be installed into the gimbal housing first, with the ring slid into position from underneath. Due to the fact that the ring fits into the gimbal housing at the bottom in a very fixed position (not allowing any vertical play) I have to believe that pin is normally installed from the bottom, up through the gimbal ring and into the gimbal housing.

Getting the pin into position with the bellows on was a TOUGH task and getting it back out is going to be even harder (if I have to), attached a photo to show it's current "stuck" condition. The pin wiggles around in there but won't advance any further up. If there is a video out there someone can share with me it would be very much appreciated, considering making my own since I can't find one on youtube.
Any help would be much appreciated!
