Gimbel bearing vp dp

have a question, when i replace the gimble bearing(vp dp-c1)do i romove the carrier(plate?) that it sits in from the transom or still attached to the boat i replaced 2 bad u-joints today and wondered if i should go ahead and do the gimble since im there already. thanks

The DP-C1 drive does not have a gimbal bearing.
There is a bearing in the flywheel cover that may needs replaced, but to access it, you have to remove the engine to remove the flywheel cover
