This could be expensive or very simple, if you can find your cam duration numbers and what type of valve springs, valves, and heads that will determine where the engine peaks out...from there its going to be a prop that likes running on the surface along with how hard you want to run that drive. It seems anytime one gets over 5500 rpm it becomes very expensive. Maybe a pic of your cav plate at high trim and its relationship to the hull would be good just to see.

hydraulic roller camshaft and lifters, spec's (206/216` duration at .050" with .475" lift on 114`LSA) The torque curve went up pretty early 1,800 or so and stayed pretty much level at about 400Lbs until about 5,000 rpm then pretty much fell off. They are the vortec heads 64cc chamber.

I burned up the top gear set last time out so in the process of getting a drive. Once that is back on I plan to use the Go Pro to get a video and see where the drive is running, and if the drive shower is working or if the tubes need to be extended.

Well this is strictly a opinion or approach. I personally target a 5000 rpm peak, vortec heads are well documented at falling off at that rpm without significant porting. A go pro is not needed just a simple still showing just how far your cav plate is above the bottom of your hull

So 1.5 @ 5500 25p gets 87 0% slip
Actual is 68.4 thats 21% a pic of your transom and cav plate how far is your cav plate above the hull in inches

fireman24mn Those Carlson CV23's are pretty fast boats. With the Alpha, when trying to keep the rpm's at 5k, if you have to do it with high pitch props that places a pretty good load of torque on the drive, which you may have just experienced.

I see you on the CGOAMN Classic Glastron Owners of Minnesota and Wisconsin site, so maybe you have reached out there too. I seem to recall that some there have been through this. Seems there are some specific one-off racing type things that are available both internally and externally for the Alphas when trying to reign in a 300+ HP higher rpm engine. I do think maybe most of the faster ones there are jets though.

Maclin,

With I everything I have done to this boat I don't know there is any one else out there that has done the same. If you read my first post you will see whats been done. The cv-23 are a 50- 55mph boat stock with the 260 merc. One other person I know built a 383 up pretty high and they got to about 65 however they did not do any of the other modifications I have done.

At this point lowering slip is a big deal, looking at your hull and your engine height i would think along the lines of a 23 ft bass boat and how they address things. Sounds a bit off its reality and to the point, a turbo top OP would work quite nicely here surface piercing prop heavy lifter tons of bite. Ive put one on a 24 ft mirage off shore boat things worked out quite well.

Google turbo top sport cuddly that prop is a smooth as silk and ended high slip. It's a high rake prop lots of lift....less wetted surface area less drag less slip etc etc

The prop I'm referring to is a turbo txp04, im sure not to many have heard of it but it s a prop that has a high rake small diameter lifts heavy loads and is a smooth as butter. You will find some highly experienced Donzi guys on the web who sweat by them. As to advertised proproganda lol dont take it all for granted and i am not a French model just ask the admiral.
