Glastron Gas Tank Question

Hello,

I have a 74 Glastron V-179 Starflight open bow and the gas gauge does not work. Can someone tell me where I should start in trying to find the problem. Given its age, anything could be wrong but I thought I would tap into the wisdom on this forum. Also, It has the AQ 130 and 270 Volvo Penta outdrive. Anyone know where I can get a shop manual? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Glastron Gas Tank Question

if you can find an access panel for the sender, you can troubleshoot the wiring and sender. The sender is a variable resistor on a float. As the gas is used, the float drops and the resistance changes. The needle on the gauge shows the changes.

For all you know the sender wire could have broken.

We had a close cousin of your boat--V187 Stinger with a 135 Johnson. The sender is easily accessed and is probably your problem. The wire on the rheostat breaks. Not likely to be the gauge.
