I am in the process of restoring a 1967 Glastron. I am replacing the stringers and deck, and plan to reinforce the transom a bit. I removed the glass on the inside of the transom to expose the plywood; however, the plywood does not reach the hull bottom but instead there is a half inch gap left between the bottom of the plywood and the hull. Does this gap serve a purpose? I plan to fill the gap with epoxy filler unless I find some information regarding the purpose of this design. Any thoughts?
