Glastron Transom Question

I am in the process of restoring a 1967 Glastron. I am replacing the stringers and deck, and plan to reinforce the transom a bit. I removed the glass on the inside of the transom to expose the plywood; however, the plywood does not reach the hull bottom but instead there is a half inch gap left between the bottom of the plywood and the hull. Does this gap serve a purpose? I plan to fill the gap with epoxy filler unless I find some information regarding the purpose of this design. Any thoughts?

Re: Glastron Transom Question

Yes... it saved the boat builder one half inch of wood :)

Welcome to iboats!

You can fill that gap with your new wood or even bed the wood in PL adhesive along the bottom...... an epoxy "fill" would just be more money.

Re: Glastron Transom Question

Thanks for the response and the welcome. I do not plan to remove the transom ply, but I will look into your method of applying PL adhesive. I am looking forward to diving in on this project, and I am sure I will have one more question before its all over. This is a great resource and hopefully I can be of some help too.
