Re: Glastron V156 - 1st Boat

Hey nrf414, I saw your old boat on Craigslist and I was like Hey I know that boat! You have it very fairly priced. If I have know anyone in the area in the market I was definitely going to send them your way. When I saw it listed I was hoping you had found a cuddy and not that you were getting out of boating. Good like with your new one.

Re: Glastron V156 - 1st Boat

Hello All:

Last Sunday I was able to purchase my first boat. It is a 1974 Glastron V156 with an Evinrude 85hp motor. This is my first boat. My towing rig is a 94' Chevy 1500 W/T 4x4 with towing package. I am an avid fisherman and wanted to really get engaged with the water and have the ability to go for stripers, pike, walleye, huge channel cats, and other larger freshwater fish. I have spent the last week or so just browsing the forums getting familiar with some of the terminology and tips and tricks. I plan on doing some work to my boat but I am on a somewhat limited budget. There are many cosmetic opportunities on this boat, that I can't wait to get my hands on. I plan on sandblasting / repainting my trailer and doing some other small stuff to my boat. The boat came with all coast guard reg equipment including a radio and plenty of PFD's.

I wanted to introduce myself and welcome any newbie tips / tricks that were not in the sticky post for beginners. Anyone else have a very similar boat?

Re: Glastron V156 - 1st Boat

Hello NRF4114. I too am new to the forum & have a Glastron V156 with the same 85HP engine. I've had mine since 1989. I think the engine is a 1974, the boat is a 1972 and the trailer I have which is very similar to yours is a 1972 Vanson. Iv'e learned how to replace the water pump, the cooling water diverters, and lots of other maintenance chores. But it's been worth it. My kids loved that boat and we used it as a family every chance we got. Here in Arizona you can boat almost year round and I think we probably did. Mine has 424 hours on the clock.

I looked at my trailer and I see the bow ring is about 7 inches above the rubber bow stop. It aligns with the winch strap hook , so it appears to pull the boat up and forward. Also the previous owner welded a heavy duty chain to each side of the trailer (at the cross member) with a heavy D ring in the middle that attaches to the bow ring.
