Hello!

In November I bought a Glastron X-19. It is a 19' Bowrider with a 4.3L V-6 (Chev)

Its a pretty neat boat and is very similar to Frisco's Boat.

The motor and out drive are in good shape and only need a few preventative maintenance items to be completed on them. After a few outings with the boat and noticing a slow leak, I realized that the transom was rotted when I did a few core samples and removed a few screws from the back of the boat.

As I bought this boat very cheaply, and don't really have the cash to upgrade to a nicer boat I decided to rebuild this one to keep me on the water until I can afford an upgrade. In a few years I will have saved up enough money to buy a newer boat, but until then ill be on the water on this one!

I have been lurking here for a few months and have a bit of experience in woodworking, and engines (from cars and motorcycles) I am not really a new boater as I have been sailing for many years, and race J24's ( 24' sailboat) with my dad. So hopefully I have enough experience to complete this job!

On to the Rebuild:

I would like to keep this first post as a Check-off list as many others have done and keep a sort of table of contents of deliverables and milestones in this project to make it easier stay on task. I am hoping to be back on the water in Mid spring. This will be a lot like the System-f's Poor man Ski boat, as I am using it for wakeboarding and tubing mostly, but will also use it for some fishing as well.

The project has been divided up into the following sections and each will be edited as they allow.

So this weekend I am going to remove the Stern Drive and Engine. If anyone has some tips or helpful ideas, please let me know! I do have the manual and have been reading up on the removal of these items which has helped a lot.

This website is a great resource and I would not be able to complete this project without it! Thanks!

Re: Glastron X-19 Rebuild

OK an update:

Other Trailer did not pan out. it did not have brakes, so I didn't pull the trigger.

My roomates and I removed the sterndrive and started on the gimbal housing. I am working on removing the engine at this point.

we were unable to remove the shift cable from the housing, so that will be something that needs to be done.

The stern drive was removed recently and looks in decent shape, so that is good news.

I think.... that the engine needs to be pulled next, then the remaining gimbal housing can be removed after.

sorry to ramble but, I really feel over my head on this one. It is a little overwhelming at the moment. I have done a decent job of labeling, and every section of bolts goes into a ziplock bag and gets taped to the part it belongs with. hopefully this will help when its all said and done. I will upload pictures from this weekend on sunday probably.

Tomorrow I need to move the 30' enclosed and pull my boat on the concrete pad so we can get the engine pulled out.

my goal is to have the engine and gimbal out by Sunday. If I am at that point I would be happy.

sorry if my grammar and spelling are bad. I have had more than my fair share of adult beverages and it is currently 3 am here.

anybody who works on marine equipment gets my full share of respect. it isnt easy!!

im rambling now. good night! and good luck to everyone! keep those restorations going!

Re: Glastron X-19 Rebuild

Hey 199q

Just dropping by. Hope things are going OK. Don't worry if it's taking time. I've been so busy I can't get started on mine either. plus I'm a newbie too. We'll get them going soon I hope. I keep moving mine to mow around it and then putting it right back where it was. :(

I took a new job in Feb and haven't had a spare minute since. With all the stress on the new job I could really use the time with the boat as relaxation therapy.

Keep your head up and you'll get there.:)
