I am in the process of rebuilding an older Mercruiser 160HP. I had the block boiled out and bored 0.030 over, got new pistons, rings, bearings, etc.... I started to put it back together this morning (Easter Sunday, didn't go over too well!) and it looks like the rear oil seal is wrong. The s/n on the engine is 2232201, and is stamped 1967. Does anyone know if the older blocks had different rear seals? I was hoping to have the short block completed and didn't get anywhere! Any info is appreciated.

Tony

The original seai fit into a groove in the block and end bearing cap. The new seal isn't even the same shape, kinda 'u' shaped where you might thing it would fit over something. Hope this helps.
