Hi all,

Had my first real "problem" with my recently purchased boat today. Would not idle at all.. seemed to want to die below 1500rpms. Tried gum-out in the carb, checked vacuum, fuel, etc all seemed ok. Checked plug wires from distributor cap and low and behold the distributor was loose and had retarted a good 5-10 degrees (and thus the idle prob). Hand-rotated until the idle seemed ok, and then went to tighten... The bracket bolt is frozen and nothing is working, WD40, rust spray, hammer and chisel... The bolt won't move (either direction) and I'm afraid it will snap if I apply any more pressure. Any advice here? It appears the bracket is tightened all the way (and then some) and the dist is still loose enough that it rotates with the slight engine vibration.

Also, the bracket may be broken, I am not sure what they are supposed to look like but this one looks like it should go all the way around the dist but instead only goes about 30% around the front like a fork. Is this normal? Any advise is much appreciated!

hold down is Y shaped with bolt hole in lower leg. new boat? warranty? soak it with pb blaster or equivalent. heat. break it off, drill, retap or helicoil. very frustrating. good luck.
