VRO is not an accurate name for the newest pumps, as they mix at a staight 50:1 ratio, not "Variable Ratio Oil"

Seahorse:
Just realized I need to verify that the later, rebuildable pump will replace the VRO pump on my 1986 40 hp Evinrude. Right now, I don't know what pump is on it. I do know it pumps gas, uses oil, doesn't beep, alarm does work when tested. If it is the original, it seemed like it might be a good idea to replace it this winter. If it is a 4 wire pump, I will probably leave well enough alone.

Charles

If your pump had a blue-gray fuel outlet fitting and four wires coming out of it, that is the OMS pump that came out in '92 and it is a good one that was used until the new model came out in '98 or '99. Since '92 they have been called Oil Metering Systems ( OMS pumps)

Some folks may say it is a constant ratio but that is not true. It averages about 60:1 depending on your usage, but it idles about 75:1 and runs 50:1 at high speeds.

The new pump that was intalled in our engine has the oval stainless steel retainers to hold in place with Torx screws the fuel, pulse, and oil fittings.

I'm glad to see that it is comepletely repairable.

(but I hope to have a twin outboard boat by the next time the pump needs service!)
