Ahem, yikes!

So Snookster, I'm curious to know the rest of the story. I've never even thought about what to do with a bilge full of gasoline. I can imagine the boat might not smell too great for awhile.

Ck this out. My best friend is on his way to pick me up to go fishing. it's about 4:00 in the morning -- he's somewhere between sleep walking & half lit. He pulls up to the gas pumps, removes his fuel cap on the gunnel - retrieves the gas nozeel & commences to fill'r up.

After many minites pass... he can't help but being curious why he hears his bilge pump running. He goes to the back of the boat(on the trailer) & gas is being pumped right out of the transom like a gisser via the bilge pump.... good thing the plug was in huh.

On closer inspection -- he found he inserted the gas nozzell into the ROD HOLDER. Is this guy a bone head or what. God protects drunks & idiots.

It's almost he hard to believe did'nt blow himself up with sparks & heat off the bilge pump. The way he tells it - he of course shut the gas off, the bilge shut down shortly. He took it back home & started filling his boat w/ water, repeatedly flushing the bilge pump. I have'nt been out w/ him since but I'll bet it still stinks. I saw a beatiful 28 Mako in St Pete with a ruptured 220 gal tank that saturated all the floatation once... not pretty, they were cutting out the floor and shoveling out the floatation the day I saw it.

Sounds like the water was a good idea.

It is almost hard to believe something bad didn't happen as all kinds from heat sources and sparks could have really lit things up!

Speaking of the Mako with the 200 gal tank, that's one reason why some people prefer diesel on offshore boats. The US Navy too is trying to get gasoline completely off of their ships.
