Going Duck Hunting for First Time

So my Unc has been after me for years to go duck hunting with him. He said he'd provide me with a gun and coat, and I have everything else. Leaving at 5:00 Saturday morning to run up and down the White River bottoms freezing my brass monkeys off. Should be a hoot. Might even see a duck.

Hmmm. We didn't cover that one. Don't worry Lipp. Got lots of layers. I'm one of the nuts breaking the ice out of the guides on his fly rod. That's some of the best fishing and definitely the least crowded.

Whew ....... from the title of the thread thought you might be an Auburn fan and would be terribly disappointed when the Ducks kick some serious Auburn butt at the BCS championship game!

I survived my first duck hunt. We were on the White river at dark:thirty am. The mercury was at 35 and dropping steadily all morning. We did a lot of exploring and he showed me some really cool oxbows that I will be frequenting once the rain replenishes them. We set decoys mid-morning and saw some ducks but could not get them to come in. No worries though; I had a great time and most importantly didn't get cold. It will definitely not be my last duck hunting expedition. I'm officially hooked.

Great glad you had a good time!!!!I have been once at the deer leas we have but no boat for us we lay down over looking the tank.as for me i froze it was 19 degrees in Texas so no more for me

Figured you would be hooked. I haven't done the decoy deal ... just jump shoot them, find them and drift in, etc. Lots of fun however you do it. Last week we had some coots around us and we watched one run up on shore. We drifted in and he ran under a log right in front of us ... yep, bro caught him with his hands. We laughed and threatened to throw him up in the air yelling "PULL!" We let the little guy live, he gave us enough laughs!
