Looking at a boat that the motorboat2.JPGowner says is 1991 with 1991 "Gold Offhore Series" 150hp Mercury. I don't have the engine s/n yet but will.

Have not yet found anything on the Gold Offshore Series in a 150 hp size and only later year larger engines.

Can anyone tell by the picture what I'm looking at?

Suggestions on what this engine may need given it's age? It is supposed to have low hours and was in use this past season. I'm going to have it run (on land) but probably won't be able to have a sea trial.

Asking $3k for the whole rig.

Hello and welcome to Iboats.

I'm not sure when Mercury went from the clamshell cowling to the one piece hood style, but it's a start.

It a pre 1989 motor if you go by the cowling(clamshell) and the 150 on rear is not a factory decal. I have never seen these type decals before so someone may have had them made and installed them.

Very helpful. I'll be certain to look up the serial number. This rig is starting to smell like old fish. Somewhat mis-represented already and he's waffling on letting me have it checked by a merc mechanic.

Is there an on-line serial number lookup site? Or do I post it here and someone will know?

Gee, if the motor has good compression and runs, the PTT works and the boat looks good, I would think $2.5K - $3K is fair. Make sure it is not stolen.
