Picked up for cheap (REAL cheap) a Golden Jet 7hp. Air cooled single, Solid State ignition (good spark)...needs a carb float needle/seat at least from what I'm told. Just gave it a quick once over. Can only find one plate with 150193. Pix to come if no one knows. Thanks..

www dot discount-marine-parts dot com has an extensive online database to help ID outboards. They might even have a few parts for it.<br /><br />1962-72 Eska which used 5Hp Tecumseh powerheads.

Ooops! My bad.<br /><br />Tecumseh parts are also often available at lawnmower/chainsaw shops, though.

Re: Golden Jet 7HP..who made it?

It kinda has some similarities to a 7hp Clinton I have, and I don't have any Eskas to compare it to. I'll look into that DMP.com and see what I can gather. But a question first.<br />The Carb has a gasline coming from the gas shut off into a spigot on a plate on the side by the float bowl. Right above it is another spigot that is capped by a red plug over the OD. Don't know what this is for? Spraying carb cleaner into the fuel line will come back out the other capped spigot (with cap off of course). It doesn't seem to get to the float bowl. Some sort of vac line or something? I just took a fast look at this before coffee, so I will take a good look today. Any idea why the 2 spigots? I'll take that little plate off today. Thanks for any info so far (and looking at this motor, if they got 7 HP out of this, somewhere the Nitrous bottle was removed..LOL)

Re: Golden Jet 7HP..who made it?

An update on the Golden Jet. The plate on the side of the carb with 2 spigots must be for an external tank hook up. Coffee does wonders for my brain in the morning. Can't think right until 2 cups! Pulled it off, and can see something moving in there when turning it over...some sort of pump. Sprayed some carb cleaner up through the float seat, and it shot out nice, so I buttoned it up, tossed it in the can, and a little carb fiddling has it ready to mount on the test rowboat tomorrow! Fun little motor, and damn simple. Have no idea what I will do with it, but at least its ONE boat motor I finally own that won't need a new impeller soon. Or ever! Don't know the oil mix, so 25-1 won't kill it. Thanks for the help, and that DMP site has a lot of fun info.

Re: Golden Jet 7HP..who made it?

Whoops on the no impeller...found this Googling around the web..<br />"By the way, although “air-cooled,” many of the Clintons and Eskas were fitted with water pumps which cooled the motor’s “leg” and the bottom of the engine block. Some early versions had a scoop behind the prop. for providing this cooling water. I suspect that many of these pump-equipped engines are running with bad impellers and their owners are unaware of it. It is my understanding that Eska claimed it’s engines could be run with bad impellers if the oil ratio was increased"<br /> I'll look into this over the winter. Found a few sites with parts...this collecting of old outboards is additive! Have about 15 now. Not near Chinewalkers "Motorwall", and not even close to Paul M. and his knowledge, but I'm working on it!

On the water today, and she just chugged right on! Pulled the leg this morning and the impeller has plenty of life in it. And that 7 horse is just about even with my 84 4hp Rude in the way of speed (or lack of).....make a good fishing motor...idles just fine
