Golden Jubilee-Rare? Add any collector value?

Hello folks,

I have a friend that has a 1959 50 Hp Starflite Evinrude mounted on a 14 foot Glastron v-hull.
I was amazed to see a 50 HP V-4. The cowling was in good shape, and it also has a Golden jubilee emblem on the starter switch plate.

He has the original owners manual, and the engine has a really cool Bronze(!) propeller.

Is this boat collectible (to the right person) or is it a 44 year old gas hog with an overbuilt, detuned v-4 that is worth about 500-600 bucks?

Also, I have a 59 Golden Jubilee 35 hp that runs great, and was wondering about value (they don't really seem too rare).

Tom

the answer is both IMHO.
wouldn't want on my transom, but if in "mint"
cond. someone with a classic '59 boat might be
willing to pay big $ for it. would guess these
people would be rare and most would look at it
as just an old outboard.
good luck,
M.Y.

Mellowyellow,

Thanks for the reply. The friend is paying me to get it ready for the water and to help sell it.

It probably worth something to the right collector, but up here in the panhandle...might be hard to find.

Thanks again.

TE

in my neck of the woods, there's a big antique
boat show each summer in the 1,000 Islands.
that would be the kinda place I would try.
to collectors, "condition is everything".
good luck,
M.Y.

As neat looking as they are, they really aren't all that practical (particularly up here with $1.50+/gallon prices!) However, if it's a sometimes use boat that sees limited duty on slow cruises on Sunday mornings, it can be a lot of fun.

They certainly aren't rare. Evinrude was churning out more than 100,000 motors a year back in those days and a great many of them survive today. An astute collector who really wants one will do their homework and knows they're not rare (even though many eBay sellers try to convince us that they are!).

- Scott

Not likely - this is a 10 year old thread...
