I have a 1963 14' Starcraft aluminum runabout that I am going to scrap in the next few days. I wanted to run it by you guys to make sure its not some collectors boat that should be salvaged.

It would be a nice project except for the following:
Two boats in the driveway, wife is mad.
No title, but one could probably be obtained.
Windshield is junk
Seats are pulled out but could be salvaged.
Transom is rotted on the ends, but it was holding a 60hp
Paint is shot
Lights are gone
Trailer it sits on is pretty much junk
No controls or motor
In general, just rough condition

The aluminum hull is ok

You could put it on Craigslist or your local Freecycle and see if anyone wants it.

Don't want to get a goofball wanting me to pay a bill from the marina for estimated cost of repairs, if you read those posts.

you protect your self always with a bill of sale, " they buyer has inspected the boat, and is satisfied, that he is accepting it, as is, present condition."

it is rare that we hear of the buyer that really is in need of being "commited" to a care facility.

I don't really think there would be a problem with a sale through Craigs list, etc., and the bill of sale is a great idea. I just need to get it out of the driveway fast.

How much can you get from the scrap/recycler for the aluminum value?

Just out of curiosity... Can you post a quick pic of the boat?

Here are some pics of the boat, and also one of the same model of boat in good condition.
I don't know what scrap prices are right now, but I hear that prices are down.
I gave it to a guy to scrap, but it will probably come back. He thinks you need a title to scrap it so the scrapyard doesn't think you stole it.

Hey the red & white looks really good, do you think you can post a pic of the inside? I'm looking for ideas on how I want to set up my 14 footer.

Did they have titles for those boats back then? I wouldn't scrap the boat, wouldn't bring much anyhow. Give the boat to somebody (as mentioned), give it a chance to get back into circulation and use. Those aluminum boats are easy to fix up, the only hard part I have found is how to layout the interior and taking care of the paint. I have a thread on a similar looking boat in this forum. 60hp on the back of that boat? Now I'm wondering if mine is way under powered with a 35hp .

Keepinit, I will get some pics and post them.

Wildman, they have titles in our state. The guy I got it from never got the title from the guy he got it from. When I applied for the title it came back in another owners name previous to that. Not sure, but I could probably get the title just by signing the right name on the power of attorney and sending it in.
I think you will find the 35 is a better match. I put the 60 on the red and white one just to test it. The boat is not rated for that size motor by the sticker or the coast guard formula. It is a heavier motor and not easy to install and remove like the 35. The bow sits higher, and the transom lower from the extra weight. Also I go in alot of shallow water which I won't be able to do with a 60 on it.
That being said, the additional power and speed is nice.

Located on I-80 right in the middle of Illinois. If your interested in it I can get some pics of it. The guy I gave it to would probably take whatever you offered him for it. I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what to do with it.

Thanks for the info. You are a bit too far away for me.

Thanks again!

Re: Gonna scrap a '63 14' Starcraft

Keepinitreel, Here are the pictures of the inside of the red boat. One front, one center, and one back so you can get an idea of how much room there is.
The seats in the blue boat were set up different. The rear seats were back to back with the front seat. They are built together.
The throttle control that is sitting on the seat is for the 60 hp while it is being tested. The fixed one is controling the throttle while the other one has the shift buttons and key for that motor.
I am supposed to be getting back the "junk" boat because the guy I gave it to is too lazy to cut it up and take it to the scrap yard!

If I could get up there I would be interested in obtaining that boat and fixing it up...

Re: Gonna scrap a '63 14' Starcraft

I like the setup with the bench seat in the back with the space in the middle. That's what I wanted to do but did not know if it would work for me but now I see that it will :) BTW, I like that crome collar on the steering wheel. Thanks for posting the pics.
