Alright...ive decided that I cant afford two boats and I have fallen in love with my newest purchase. With that in mind, I have decided to sell the Imperial. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the cash value of any boat is subjective, but i need some help pricing this baby.

Here's what I have:

The Boat: 1978 Imperial T 157
new floor...new carpet...all new seats and upholstery with composite frames and 28oz marine vinyl...clarion audio system with ipod dock...new waterproof stainless switches with a heavy duty 6 bay breaker panel for the nav lights, bilge pump, wolo air horn, stereo(2 bays), and 12vdc accessory port...new grant gt steering wheel...new 3 bow aluminum bimini frame with 6' sunbrella bimini top...600 denier trailerable cover...new paint(the stripes)...just buffed glass.

The trailer:
single axle(2800lb gross) adjustable trailer--up to 19' with dump option at the front of the trailer...new lights and wiring...new treated bunks...new rollers...new bearings...new tires...pulls like a dream.

The motor: 1978 Johnson Stinger 75ELR78
just tuned up...new head gasket...new impeller...1100 amp battery...12 gallon tank with new hoses and connectors...electric choke...custom painted cowl...two props...original 17p aluminum pulling prop and a new TP Hustler 21p speed prop

there may be more, but I cant think of it right now. I live about 5 miles from one of the most desirable lakes in the southeast...Lake Guntersville. all watersports and all types of fishing.

i dont have a clue what this boat should sell for but i hope you guys can help.

It looks showroom clean and turnkey ready, I'd start asking around $3K.
Put a sign on it and post it to craigslist.

Prices are probably local to some extent too, here $2000-$2500

If you have people itching to get on the lake, then a $3k price tag wouldn't be extreme, but I'd be willing to bet you will end up getting closer to $2k for it simply because of age and desirability.

Find the right buyer though and market it properly and you can maximize your profit.

Oops, I said the P word when talking about boat restoration!

Clean boat but like ^^^^^ said desirabity will be a factor. Don't see many people looking for tri-hulls any more. I would start a $2700 and would take $2000 if some one walked up with cash in hand. I don't think people often look at accesories as big value when buying. If there is anything on that boat you can use on your new one I would do it. Is the trailer better, better motor bimini. When ever I sell something like this I strip all the accessories I can use and put them in a box. If someone is offering full price I'll give them the box. Anything less I don't even mention it exists. That boat is clean enough that even stripped of accessories will get $1700-2000. Don't pull anything that leaves a big hole in the boat though, like stereo. If its a good one that you can use I would go buy a cheap one and throw in the hole. Sounding like a used car salesman here but it looks like you've got $1500 in extras on that boat, that no one will be willing to pay for.

If you have records of the work done, including receipts and photos (this board is great for that) then you'd get about $2500-$3000 around here (MN) for it.

But if you sell it in early spring you might get up to $5000 for it, if you're lucky. We're edging into the worst time of year to sell a boat, and the best time to buy.

Something to remember though is that while there are folks out there that appreciate a well cared for boat, or one that's "vintage", many people have very high expectations for boats in this market. I recommend deciding right off what you'll accept for it, and have a contingency plan if it doesn't sell.

thats kind of what i was expecting... i really cant use much of it on the cuddy though. ive got much less than 2000 in the imp and would be pleased if it brought that.

ill list it on craigslist and here on iboats. ill post links to the listings.

the 5 grand mentioned above would be OUTSTANDING...lol.

Looks to me could get 2500 out of it. I would take no less than 2k for it. I agree with the person who said strip of anything usable. Accessories don't increase value, just makes it easier to sell. If you are not in a hurry and there are items you can use off of it later I'd keep them.

I will add here on the accessories you could also pull them off and sell them seperately since as stated they wont raise the value of the boat yet are worth money on their own so I would pull anything that could be removed somewhat easily and sell them seperately.

I'd give you $2000 for the motor, controls and gas tank.

I know you would hate to do it, but the boat is worth more in pieces than whole.

I'd part it out like this:

- Motor and controls $2500
- Boat alone $800
- Trailer $800

Total: $4100.

If you're a good seller and the boat is as good as you say, go for 5K and take 4.5. .Take lots of good pictures, on(running) and off the water(at a nice place).The magic number is $4,500. To get that price you'll have to wait in spring, starting March/April. Post your add all over the place and you will get that price

That is one sharp looking old boat!!!

If I had the money I would buy it from you in a heartbeat!

My tri-hull rebuild has cost me a fortune, its still not done, and not as nice looking as yours! ( I don't even have a bimini )

I say ask at least 3.5k for it, and dont settle for less than 2500... the motor alone is almost worth that. It doesn't hurt to start a little higher knowing you have a nice solid boat! You can always come down a bit. It really depends on what your willing to take, and how fast you need to sell it...

For what I have spent so far I could have boat yours, and still had a lot of money left over

(Wish I had now too, rebuilding sucks).

thers a lot right on the lake between a couple marinas where people park boats and what not for sale. ive heard people do pretty good there. im just scared to leave it over night.

thanks for all the compliments. i really did put alot of work into that project. im glad it shows.

i think im gonna shoot for 3500. id take 2500 bottom dollar. this weekend im gonna take it to the big boat mart on the lake and see what they think. maybe if i have it on the water when they look at it they will think more of it.

My opinion - go higher around 3500 asking and see what happens...Worse case scenario is nothing and then you know to lower the price.

I did this with my 1992 yamaha and got more money for it - Start higher and see what happens. The guys who want a cheaper boat can buy the junky looking one down the street.

If you were here you could probably get $5500 for it. Boat prices here are ridiculous for boats that look 1/3 as good as yours. If I could make the drive I'd give you $3000 cash on the spot for that thing and we'd both walk away happy. Good luck!
