Way to kick a guy when he's down. Every day people have to sell things well below their value due to emergencies. No need to beat them down even further. Very few people on here could sell their boat for what they have in it if they had to due to emergency. Give the guy a break.

Nobody's kicking anybody. In fact, I'll bet everybody here wants to see him sell his boat, and for top dollar. I know I do.

It's a bummer he has a family emergency, too, but he'd probably give up all his boats to help his wife. After all, they're just boats. So - way to go Imperial!

But I think the point that some have made pretty well is that if you put lots of money into your 30 year old tri hull, don't kid yourself that it's worth more than someone else is willing to pay. That's just real world, and very good advice given through experience - and that's the thing that makes this site such a great resource. Thanks Bubba1235!

you are so right redfury.

when that guy stopped i was in one of those "super proud" moments and when he began talking down to me and acting like i had trash for a boat thats when i went on the defense.

reminds me of that old Star Trek episode where Scotty gets thrown in the brig while at the outpost...the Klingons were bad mouthing Enterprise and Scotty tells Kirk that they said they had a bad captain and Kirk asks if that was when he started the fight? Nope, it was when they said the Enterprise was no better than a garbage scowl that he hit the Klingon :D

dont watch much star trek but thats pretty funny.

im just proud of it...the only thing i knew about boats when this one was give to me was that most of them float...lol. i wasnt sure this one would at first. honestly, when he told me he was giving me the boat i told him i didnt want it. my wife gave me the "yes you do, dont hurt his feelings" elbow, i said i would come get it. it sat in my driveway collecting leaves from august till december. i finally decided if it was here i may as well piddle with it. before i knew it i was waxing it and had learned more than i ever thought i would about boats.

as far as cash goes...i only have about a grand in it...boat, motor, and trailer...so if it doesnt sell, its not like im upside down in it.

Let me see if I can make sense of this.

You're offended by a low offer,
whilst at the same time paying peanuts for other peoples boats.
At the same claiming you need money for something else.

Yep... Thats boating for ya.;)

Move along there folks, nothing to see here.

lol...im telling ya :D

if we were meant to be on the water God would have given us fins and gills.

but since he didnt, we go crazy and do silly things to be out there.

...and yes, i have gotten some killer deals, and i will stand corrected on what i said about that guy. i wasnt ill with the offer...just the way he acted. i know everybody wants the best deal they can get...heck, i know i do.

The mistake was letting him set the price, give them your price up front and walk away, start mowing the lawn or something,

if they start picking it apart ("this seat has a scratch and the engine isn't new") just leave the ball in their court " Let me know when you decide " :p

...and walk away.

And if someone offers $1500 again tell them "make it $2100 and I'll include the trailer." :D

My friend does this with houses. He puts all kinds of exclusions in and then "lets" the buyers negotiate them back in. Like "alright if you meet this price I'll leave the ceiling fans" :)

I think you did fairly well. Let's be honest tri-hulls have an extremely dated look to them and I think that hurts their resale. I'm in the same situation with my closed bow runabout. No one's made one of those since like 1970. I don't think anyone sets out to specifically find either one of those types. However, your buyer sure did get a great boat for his money and I'm sure he'll enjoy it. I'll miss my Jupiter when I sell it but I'll enjoy whatever I upgrade to even more.

Funny how we can get so attached to wood, fiberglass, plastic, metal and wires. Chicks just don't understand. I feel that all my cars and water toys are my kids. One thing I have noticed over the years and especially bow riders, which I have, is that after say, 1993 or so, for the same length, they basically all look similar. I mean think about it, bow in front, cockpit in the middle, seats or sundeck on the back. Not much you can change with that setup except for cosmetic stuff. Some folks grew up with tri-hulls, including me, and just love them period. Your boat would appease the older crowd, but face it, they are the ones with the cash. Like my dad told me when I started playing drums professionally, play the older music, because the older crowd is the ones that will spend money at the bar and not buy one beer all night long, which club owners hate....man, was he ever spot on with that one. Those gigs got me through college and paid all my bills.

Congrats on the sale. And, I know what you mean about getting attached to a boat. I was really surprised at how I felt when I watched my old boat getting dragged away a few weeks back. And mine was nowhere NEAR as nice as yours. Mine was a '72 Monark jon boat with a '64 Johnson 9 1/2hp that I had since I was 15, and had definitely seen better days. It's just that it was my first boat, and I have lots of memories of all the time I spent in it learning about boating, catching tons of fish, and overall just enjoying time on the lake. Hell, I even sunk it once ... but that's a story for another time.

Regardless, there's no shame in getting attached to a boat. I think the guys that don't get emotionally involved with their projects are missing out on half the enjoyment. Otherwise, to me, it would just seem like a job, and I, for one, use this as a diversion FROM my job.

BTW, I, too, love the tri-hulls from the 70's because, like Schmoe, I grew up on one ('76 Glastron with a 115 Johnson). I think they will become more popular as resto projects for the nostalgic set, and because they were such versatile and fun boats to have. Much the same way I specifically looked for a closed bow 50's model aluminum runabout to restore. Everything old becomes new again ... eventually.

So this thread started off with "what's my boat worth" - well what did you get for her as the asking price? Was a nice looking boat for sure...
