I`m on a volunteer fire dept. We have a pager system that has a battery on a trickle charger as a stand - by power system in case of a power outage. Just to be safe the chief decided to replace our battery with a new one and I got the old one . It is an Exide Orbital , the only numbers are 24A2W on the front and 04B2T on the top, it is about 7 years old but was always on trickle , never moved and maybe 24 hours of very intermittent use { we got a great power company }. I`m quite sure it is a deep cycle. It has 13.64 volts. My question is: do you think this is suitable for my 50 hp 1982 merc with tilt , trim? Would I be wasting money to buy a new one. I have seen posts where some guys have used batteries over 5 years. I think this would be almost like a very slightly used one despite the age of it.
