My boat's already been named "Lorlee"

What are your guys' thoughts on changing the name? Bad luck as I've heard? Lol

There's a ceremony for that. When we bought our boat the name was a play-on-words of the former owner's names. Obviously it didn't fit for us. We went thru the ceremony of calling on Poseidon to "forever remove the name <old name> from the ledger of the deep, and from his memory" etc. etc. This was followed by removing anything with the old name on it, then painting the old name on a piece of metal and dropping it off the stern. Some ceremonies claim you must turn into the wind beforehand the let the wind blow your boat back over the old name as it sinks (we didn't do that since it's a power boat). A few old salts told us we should leave the boat nameless for a full month. After the month was up, we conducted the official naming ceremony with appeals to the four winds to watch over it and poured champagne in each wind's direction. The final step was to appeal to one of the ancient Greek winds which is our boat's namesake, followed by our own toast with the champagne. Then we pulled the cover off the new name and poured the rest of the bottle over the side (name was already on the stern when we started the ceremony, but we kept it covered until then).

I know it sounds silly, but I spent a lot of time on various craft (mainly work), and sometimes over a hundred days at sea. I worked with a lot of older experienced guys and picked up the superstitions and rituals.

Christopher Walken is perfect in that sketch. Not as perfect as the time with the story of the watch in Pulp Fiction though.

Walken's best performance was as Nick in The Deer Hunter, bar none. One of my top 5 favorite movies if only for the scenes of the Blast Furnace cast house floor. Brings back memories every time I watch it at least once a year. Oh yea boat names. I'm not a superstitious person but if I did have to change the name I would go through the ceremony, start to finish. I might not believe in God but I sure am afraid of Him.

When I bought my boat it was named Joy Toy, Couple who owned its last name was Joy, Joy Ride would have been good too.
I was going to name it LandEscape since that is my line of work.
It had leaky toons so at first I called it Waterlogged or Bubbles from the bubbles when testing it.
Never got the name painted on it so as a I am selling it now it still is Joy Toy.

You have to be familiar with the Christopher Walken SNL sketch to understand the "More Cowbell" name. If you opened the link bruceb58 provided you'll get it. Every time I hear that Blue Oyster Cult song now I think of that sketch!....LOL

I get it now. I watched the sketch, of course that I don't get, yet. I'll eventually get it. Playing a cow bell ain't so easy, especially if the cow is wearing it.

My brother-in-law gave me a 1987 crestliner. My daughter and her friend said I should name it. My daughters name is Ashley and her friends name is Carmen. They said I had to name it after them so they came up with CARLEY.

Had a friend who named his offshore tuna boat "One Anna Tuna"
We had a green Alumacraft named "Green Goose" at my Grammie's cabin on the White Salmon before the dam was blown.
We are currently getting an old boat to restore that will be named "Debaitable". Some off my favorite names are "lil' hooker" and "Marlin Monroe"

Seeing that I'm a big fan of rock n roll music, Rocky Horror, and have long been with long hair and a beard (yeah, call me a hippie lol) I made a play on a tune from one of my favorite bands and named my boat "Riff Raft"

Our favorite place to boat in our area is Bedwell Bay. Our new to us Larson 330 project boat may end up being Bedwell. Any comments

I get that, the first time too, good one. Good luck on the project, a boat project makes money eject.

I named my first boat motley crew because when my regular boating friends were busy I had to scrounge around the barrooms in my local town for a crew
