Well DR Jack Kevorkian passed on at the age of 83.
This story always intrieged me as it showed that a democracy could with hold your personnel right to choose.

So here is the question, in a democracy when does the wishes of the masses take a back seat to your personnel wishes?

(this is not political talk, just people talk!)

You know saying this isn't political talk doesn't actually make it so.

I don't get why suicide is illegal anyways. Assisted suicide, It's legal for animals...

Re: Good bye DR DEATH.

Dr. K was always all over the news here, since he's local. So I was able follow his hijinks pretty closely. My personal feeling is that people who are suffering from terminal disease and in pain should be allowed assisted suicide. But there should be some sort of control over the process. Dr. K's procedures weren't exactly top-notch...I seem to remember at least one patient he assisted turned out to not have a terminal disease at all, he or she was mentally ill and just thought they were dying.

I know he has a lot of support, and he did a lot to publicize the issue, but personally the guy kind of gave me the creeps. I ran into him once at the Royal Oak Library- turned a corner into the library lobby and there he was, talking on a public phone (this was back when those still existed). Gave me a start, like running into the ol' Grim Reaper himself

Just think of how much money Medicare saved as a result of Kevorkian, not to mention the personal suffering.

I am looking on this in the same way I would look at prohibition in the 1920's/1930's.

He traded a lot to help people. Sad to see him go.

We're not animals...... The only assisted suicide I'm for is lethal injection if you commit a heinous crime.

This is an emotional issue no matter which side of the fence people are on.........

If someone wants to die I say its there choice. Assisting someone however is,where the issue lies. What ever happened to running the car in a closed garage? I guess I figure that if I was suffering so bad i'd take my own life. (well I'm not sure I personally would but you can't judge if you have never been in that situation.)

Have to agree here.
My take on it is:
1. Every individual has the right to make their own decisions.
2. No one has the right to oppose me when the outcome has nothing to do with them.
3. I am always amazed how many who oppose, have quite strong religious beliefs they wish to impose on others. They are identical to the extremist muslin, just on the other side of the fence. I find putting that sentence to them normally causes them to get quite excited, just like the muslin extremist actually.(WTF do you mean. I'm not like them!!! Oh yes you are. You just need to have a closer look at yourself !!)
4. Personally, I don't care what your beliefs and opinions are. The democracy I live in allows you that freedom and I have the greatest respect for you.

If you follow the systems some countries have for assisted suicide, it is the sign of a tolerant understanding caring society that treat people in difficult circumstance with great care and dignity.

Just my views.
Cheers

Re: Good bye DR DEATH.

I to have thought about what he has done on many occasions. Its one of those subjects that I can under stand why some one would do it due to illness that causes such discomfort. Like most subjects on death it comes down to who gets to play god. The funny thing is its OK for someone to pull the plug on someone who is alive but not fit to stay alive with out major help but that person cant do it him self.
