Good deal?

I recently stopped into a Lund dealer located in New York Mills, NY. They had an aluminum boat for sale, a brand new 2008 Lund WC 12. The salesman said he desperately wanted to get rid of it.

What should the estimated value of this boat be fully equipped with a Johnson 9.9 four-stroke outboard w/electric start and trailer, (all new 2008) ready to go??

Re: Good deal?

If you're looking to buy a new 12' boat, you'd have a hard time beating a Lund 12-WC. And the 9.9 4-stroke is a great match for it.

If you're not looking for that boat, then it's going to be a bad deal, since you won't be able to sell it for what you give for it.

So, ask the salesman for a number, then think about it. If they're truly desperate, you may get a real bargain. It's not a popular combo, but would make a terrific small water fishing platform.

The salesman told me that he was asking $3,999 (includes warranty) plus tax. Does anyone think this is reasonable or too steep a price?

Are you a haggler? Remember he had to sell a boat, you do not have to buy a boat. You have the upper hand in all dealings. If the shoe was on the other foot you can bet they would be treating you accordingly.

"Asking" usually means there is some room for negotiation.

It's your play.
