1986 17' Sportcraft Center console, with galvanized trailer, 1986 115HP Mercury motor, runs well, used it the other day on Winni. Has fishfinder, compass, fire extinquisher, etc. Also has a Minn Kota trolling motor($600 new),with new battery. Has a removable platform in front with fanny seat. Just replaced motor prop. Cover for console, cover has a few small holes not in critical areas. Good low maintenance boat. Have manuals for motors and fishfinder.Cushioned seats/storage/livewell are in good condition also.

Re: Good deal???

hi....

i see a few things there.

may i suggest a marine survey.

the motor is older......but it is a big one for that boat....as well there is a whale tail on it.....that means that it had a hard time getting out of the water....not correct for that motor boat combination,

i think somthing is amiss

SportCraft builds a great boat, smooth riding hull, originally was a Florida built boat. the hull should be sound, but the motor is my # concern.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame. You walk all over the deck, that a mallot, or hammer with wooden handle, using handle, tap all over the transom, a shape rap is good solid base, a thud, is questionable base.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. (This part for outboard motors Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,)
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.
boat motor combo, A 30 year old may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

just to add......that if there is no rot, everything is sound and the motor is in good shape, I think $2600 for a boat/motor/trailer combo of that vintage is a decent price. IMHO

Looks nice to me. Go try it out on the water. Poke around in every cavity you can find and feel every inch of the floor. Do you really want to spend up to $500 for a marine survey on a boat that cheap? Personely, I would spend the money on bringing it to a mechanic and having him check the motor out.
