Thanks for the advice on the manual, I understand the what you guys mean over the sterndrives, but is there a difference, anything obvious between the alpha and bravo. Sorry to be a nuisance.

OEM, OEM, OEM! Throw the Clymers away before you get into trouble! The Seloc is no better. On my old AQ125 they had the distributer rotation BACKWARDS!. Try starting a 4 banger with the wires reversed!

The Bravo drives are a lot bigger than an Alpha. other than that, it's hard to tell from the outside.

Thanks for the pictures. My sterndrive is simalar to both the pictures but I have the letters OMC etched on the housing, would that be a clue as to what the unit might be.

Start a new thread with your question.
You also need to include Year, Make, and Model numbers. Merc makes lots of different drives and engines.

Re: Good engine manual

You can't use a Mercruiser manual for your OMC. That would be like using a Ford manual to work on a Chevy. There is someone that sells the original equipment OMC manuals on ebay. I don't remember who but someone else will come along with that information. You will need your year and model number to get the right manual.
