As the world we live in allows and promotes more and more liberal and unusual life styles, things get stranger and stranger.

Case in point: Thomas Beatie, who appeared on Oprah.

You know, calling Beatie's lifestyle "liberal" is like calling Warren Jeffs' lifestyle "conservative." Methinks your brush is a bit too broad.

I hardly see the difference between this and a tom-boy. I mean, besides the testosterone pill created beard, and the obvious psyciatric problems.

I feel sorry for the kid though. Why anyone would do that to a kid is beyond me.

I have no problem what-so-ever with homosexual and transgendered people but I am a little uncomfortable with the lack of committment to the choice of pursuing gender reassignment, while still trying to reap the benefits of the original sex. Sometimes you just have to make up your mind as to what you want.

It's called artificial insemination (that's the politically correct term for what my generation called, test-tube babies)... and yes, when dealing with a lezbian couple, a sperm donor (usually from a sperm bank) is necessary, while if dealing with a male couple, an egg and surrogate mother are required. But homosexual couples do have kids this way sometimes; though more frequently the parents are in heterosexual relationships first when they have the kids, then "turn gay" and the kid is brought into the homosexual relationship from the non-homosexual relationship they were produced in.

I've only known a few homosexual couples, but in most cases, they were pretty normal people, and their kids were about as well adjusted as any other kid (although in one case the kid was sevierly autistic, but that's a disability, so it doesn't count). This particular case is entirely different though, since there are obvious and sevier psychiatric problems with at least one of the parents.

Does that clear it up for you?

Hay seems I still can.....................so I will. Screw how messed up the kid may turn out................................this is about what I want my and rights....................... screw the consequences...........................................the rest of you can just KMA and mind your own business!!

I'm very pleased that this thread was not locked/poofed. Conversely, a few jokes aside, most comments were to the point without bashing or arguing.

Could this be a new trend in Dockside?

I think that, given the opportunity to do so, most threads, even political or religious would be this way right now. But there will always be a few exceptions, and those exceptions will draw crowds that will make more exceptions, and that's how the whole thing starts sliding downhill.

I think you pretty well summed up part of the mentality there...

You know, when you become a parent, what you want, doesn't matter anymore. It's all about what the kid needs, not what you want. At least that's my two cents on the matter.

Well, except for a-sexual creatures... oh, and several fish species can reproduce homosexually (well, they actually change gender just to reproduce, so maybe that's not quite the same, but seems quite appropriate for this bobby chick or whatever her name is).

IMHO, medical professionals are at fault for experimenting with natures finest species. If they didn't, such a person would not be plastered all over the news channels and papers. Human cloneing is frowned upon around the world. Gender changes should fit into this catagory as well in my opinion.

I beleive in re-constructive surgery only if it was from war wounds and accidents that leave the victim disfigured. God gave me what I have and plan to take it to the grave with me,,,,,,,,,,,except for my teeth

Are you saying is anyone who has trouble reproducing should just accept that fact? No fertility drugs, no Ceserean Sections, if you can't make a kid by squatting down in the woods and grunting a bit, you don't deserve one? Or is it only heterosexual couples who get to take advantage of technology?

Anyone can screw up a kid. There's plenty of evidence to show that children of homosexual couples grow up just as normal as any other kids. There's also evidence that shows that children of gay couples are just as likely as other kids to figure out that they're straight.

I know two lesbian couples with kids. The kids are exceptionally well adjusted. They need extra care, since people ask a lot of dumb questions, but so do a lot of kids. My kid, as a child of liberals living in a conservative area, has a tough time in school.

Perhaps liberals shouldn't breed either? Eugenics is a scary business.
