Good impeller, Bad Flow

I've got an '88 Force 35hp OB that dribbles out a mist/spray from the water cooling exit ports rather than a stream. Impeller is fine. Backwashed and upwashed the system with garden hose to no avail. Flow through is obviously inhibited.<br /><br />Any theories on what the problem might be and how to solve it?<br /><br />Thanx,<br /><br />Kelley

Hello <br />For starters see if you have crud or seaweed on your intake filter screen and if that does not help you should take your lower unit of and check every piece of the plumbing till you find the obstruction.<br />It's either that or maybe overheat and pay big box.<br />By the way,did you rotate your drive shaft while you installed your impeller???<br />good luck.

If there was an impeller installed previous to the one in it now, and if the old impeller fragmented, there may be small pieces of it caught in the water tube entrance of the pump thereby blocking the flow. You will probably need to remove the present impeller to check this. Shoving a stiff wire down the water tube toward the water pump will clear the tube. Good luck.

adding a little silicone paste (rubber lube)<br />to and impeller allows you to turn it way easyer while assy. it plus gives a little lube to the impellor during break in helps also aids in pumping power good luck

Kelley, the sputter of water spray is normal from the two ports halfway down the leg.It should act like someone told it a funny joke,while it had a mouthfull of seawater.<br />But just to be sure, touch the side of the warmed-up block (carefully at first).You should be able to leave your finger on the block for three seconds,and without getting burned.<br />But the Force has no telltale.

HI, the actual reason for the two holes in the back of the midsection is for exhaust relief at low speed. If they were not there, the motor would develop back pressure and cause various problems. The amount of water that comes whether it's a lot, a little, or none, is not a good indication of whether the motor is receiving enough water.
