Re: good impeller....no pee!!!???

Welcome to iboats. :)

We had a weird one come in last week. Same thing, out of the blue. Took the gearcase off and the top of it was covered with those dang orange Lady Beetles, even filled the water pump. A backflush thru the thermostat opening (gearcase off) and a new impeller took care of it.

Are you sure you got the connector in place above the water outlet on the pump? Or maybe the key on the shaft slid out as you installed the impeller? Is water coming out of the prop hub when the motor is running on the muffs?

If your motor has the thermostat and poppit valve arrangement, I suggest you search for those terms on this board. It is a somewhat more complicated "circuit" and troubleshooting it is different than for motors that don't have these. It was very well explained in a fairly recent post.

How long has it been since the last impeller change? Where are you located? (Is it still cold there?)

wow fast response, thanks!the connector is in place, also i had no problem in the fall.the impeller key is also in place but seems to be just a little loose ie.the impeller will turn back and forth about 1/8th each direction on the shaft.pee hole is clear.impeller was changed by previous owner 2 yrs ago.i will search on poppet because i dont even know what it is hehehehe.over the weekend i will remove thermostat and flush.I hope a big piece of crud comes out because if it doesnt ill be stumped.fyi,im an above average wrench with below average outboard knowledge.i do really appreciate your input.great site

The impeller should not turn 1/8 of a turn on the shaft....Sure it's the correct key?

Re: good impeller....no pee!!!???

went back out tonight and pulled lower unit again.i also removed the thermo/poppet housing.everything looked ok.i think the impeller is partially wore out due to the fact that it moves on the shaft and the rubber vanes have a distinct curve set into them.is it possible that some built up scale has blocked a passage?when i flush, should i go from bottom(water tube)up or thermo housing down?the part that bothers me the most is that none of the parts are that wore out or dirty to warrant no pee.the water pressure from the hose should push at least a little water through the system.i have no pee and also no water through hub.i just want to pee is that too much to ask?????........sorry AL

If the impeller is 2 years old, replace it. They can look ok but not really be. Do that 1st.

Flush from the top somewhere to the bottom. What ever is stuck in there came from the pump. Flush it back into the pump and out.

Right gunga, that's why you replace them before they look worn.
