Frog: You responded before my editing was finished. I saw that it was unclear and was correcting it as you were typing. My point on ethanol still stands, and I'm not defending emissions - I do my part. One of us drives an old MB W123 that burns oil (which is carbon neutral)...

Myabe they can build ethanol plants right next door to breweries and just transfer the co2? 8)

By the way, the only part of my post directed towards you was the co2 part... the rest was for another party.

No troubles. The real problem is that politics is involved. There is no argument as to whether a solution is needed, the real argument is whether the US can do anything on its own and at what expense (globally).

You must have got an 'F' on that test... Plant's are definately co2 negative. They consume more then respire. Tht's why I have to supplement my planted tank with co2. If your theory were true all of my fish would slowly suffocate.

As far as the rest of you... give me a break. Why is it a bad thing for the auto industry to clean up emissions? You don't think technological advances are a good thing? Remember those old smoke belching cars of the 70's? Is that where you would have left us?

Defending the emissions record of the auto industry moves you beyond the far right... beyond conservative... you become radical right wing extremists... your ideology of wealth gathering at any cost shows you to not ask what you can do for your country but what your country can do for you.

co2 is a polutant. Put a bag on your head and keep breathing if you think it is so good. Everything in moderation.

The constitution doesn't give you the right to pollute up the whole world just so you can make a dollar.

Oh and by the way, you're like a bunch of piranhas, first chance you get, you turn on your own. All this long winded obloviating and wearing the tips of your fingers to the bone to be clever and repeat the same old tired rhetoric you heard on the news... give me a break. Don't outsmart yourselves... you're smart but let's not over do your own sense of self worth.

I'd like to end this with "respectfully" but why put something false at the end? I'm just shoving my opinion down your throat....

I think lowering emissions and all that is a god thing frog. The problems is they're so focused on the idea of these things being forced/regulated. (And to a certain extent I agree) Being forced is bad. Being forced is bad. Being forced is bad. Being forced is bad. Being forced is bad. And before you know it, just doing it is bad, forced or not.

What about littering? Does the constitution give us the right to throw our trash anywhere we want? Or do we need regulations?

Sure wish I could take a dump on the sidewalk anytime I felt like... in front of OMR's house even! Too bad about those darn regulations forcing me not too....

No, I understand photosynthesis completely. I'm not talking about photosynthesis. But what you (and most) don't understand is that photosynthesis a) only goes on during the daytime when there is light and b) is only half of what plants do. Didn't you ever learn the Krebs Cycle? I'll give you the short version: Photosynthesis uses light energy to make sugar molecules during the day. But, cellular respiration (via the Krebs Cycle) breaks the sugar molecules down into 3 things: Energy, Water, and CO2. For every 1 molecule of sugar broken down, 6 molecules of CO2 are produced. Most cellular biologists believe the overall various processes to be slightly CO2+ ,mostly due to fermentation, which brings me to the point of the absurdity of ethanol as a "solution"...

Yep I learned the Krebs Cycle back in High School. I didnt consider it as a response to your thread since the ATP or GTP energy stored from the process of getting the CO2 is used.....during the day.....in Oxidative phosphorylation (Part of making plants CO2 negative) Oh and by the way, I am pretty sure only 2 units of CO2 are yielded.......not 6. If plants were CO2 positive, I doubt we would still be around.........................

Enough of that......

I agree with Froggy here, even though I got lambasted in a different thread. I really don't see what is so threatening about restricting emissions. They ARENT taking away your current car or boat and they arent creating a disadvantage for American cars. If anything most new car buyers buy foreign vehicles for the percieved notion of better gas mileage and cleaner emissions. The American auto industry isnt going down the tubes because of it either................the high wages and pensions have taken care of that.

My head hurts.

Is the Krebs cycle one of the features on that new Kenmore Elite washer?

Re: Good News for PW2!

I just want to know who constititutes a "packed court".

Buzzy Ginzberg - ACLU whacko
Breyer - Using socialist laws to interperate ours
Souter - When has he ever voted with the conservatives
Stevens - What an unremarkable appointee. Votes liberal almost all the time.

Kennedy - the new O'Connor. Loves the attention liberals have recently heap upon him.

How many are on the court? 9 Packed? Maybe in France this would be considered conservative. Here in America I would agree, it is stacked for the liberals. Or maybe this is some of that "new" math. You all know the new math, the type where the answer is irrelavant as long as you feel good about it.

Hey Rubber, Is this where you blew a gasket? (I'm gonna bloviate here a bit so fart if ya get bored, but please keep it civil and don't get too bent like ya did this morning on another thread). I remember the first time I saw your cat was when ya farted on one of my long winded posts in 12/2006 + or - , (I still think that cat is very funny). Most Americans in 2007: Cornservative or Liberal, (in the modern sense), have their pet peaves where they want regulation that they think will ackomplish x objective(s). There has been an exponential explosive increase in "regulation" in this great Country especially since the 1930s. Ronald Reagan slowed it down for eight years, (even then: it still grew), then in 1988 it was off to the races. It is bipartisan problem, and very VERY distructive IMHO, (and maybe only my opinion). We now are soooo into this madness that we pass "hate laws". Notice the emotion in the law, where there already is an underlying law? That is about as stupid and Orwellian as you can get, next stop is thought control, as it is popular to regulate all things. Does that mean I don't want laws against murder? NO I want reasonable regulation as most people do. I think our society has more then enough regulation as of 1987. With new things like the internet, laws need to be changed to adapt to major developments, but there are profound negative consequences to massive regulation. Just ponder the time it takes to comply with the regulations passsed by the IRS. Do you realize how much productivity we as a nation would gain if the IRS and ALL THIER REGS just went away? What would CPA's do? Lobbiests? Lawyers? I bet the GDP growth would be 20-40%, (maybe much more), in a very short time. What do ya think it takes to pass a reg for the IRS? Cornections, n' $10,000 n' a wink n' a nod ta let the Congressman or woman know there's more gold in them thar hills. How much does that reg cost the rest of us? Big $. Should we pass a law to protect OMR's lawn or sidewalk from some idiot defecating in front of OMR's family. Nah Rubber. You do that and you will have problems. Maybe my pit bull would like a meal, or maybe I'd taunt ya with the thought you'd be a real star on Youtube. If ya hit me then we would need an ambulance, medical bills n' lawyers. Point is no need for a stupid nanny law. Can the government regulate CO2? I would have assumed it did before a bunch of Blue states fired up their Lib Lawyers to sue. Does a large influential part of our Country want us to over regulate autos boats lawnmowers n' BBQs? YES. Can they regulate China or India? NO. Will it hurt us if they succeed? Yasureyabetcha. Will they do it? President Obamma, Clinton, Edwards surely will, n' maybe the Republican will. FDR started something very dire for our Country, n' the current Libs are just hitting the TURBO Button. You think counter market regulations are good for domestic auto makers? NOWAY. We will have to dissagree. Do I want a clean envirenment? YES. I want to minimize CO2 emmissions as much as possible, but I want to compete with China and India on a level field. If they can do it so can we. Sorry if that p***** ya off. Respectfully JR ps: are you George?

As far as the rest of you... give me a break. Why is it a bad thing for the auto industry to clean up emissions?

Who said it was bad. Regulations that are one sided are bad. Most agree with you so the market will reward a superior vehicle with more sales.

You don't think technological advances are a good thing?

Of course I do.

Remember those old smoke belching cars of the 70's? Is that where you would have left us?

My cars in the 1970s did not belch smoke. I bet WbW could make that 67 Stang light the rear tires, (which may smoke), but the exhaust would not!

Defending the emissions record of the auto industry moves you beyond the far right... beyond conservative... you become radical right wing extremists... your ideology of wealth gathering at any cost shows you to not ask what you can do for your country but what your country can do for you.

Who's defending any emissions record. You really worked yourself up here. I bet ya don't like wife beaters either. Who has an "ideology of wealth building at any cost"?

co2 is a polutant. Put a bag on your head and keep breathing if you think it is so good. Everything in moderation.

You take everything to an extreme. Go buy some carbon credits if it settles ya down.

The constitution doesn't give you the right to pollute up the whole world just so you can make a dollar.

Who ever said it did?

Oh and by the way, you're like a bunch of piranhas, first chance you get, you turn on your own.

I thought you bit me Rubber. Check the mirror.

Sorry ya don't like hot air, (I've always done that here Rubber), remember the first time ya blasted me? I do.

I'd like to end this with "respectfully" but why put something false at the end? I'm just shoving my opinion down your throat....

Sorry ya 'feel' that way Rubber. I don't say Respectfully unless I mean it. You don't have to read my posts if they bend ya up. What did I do to fire you up? I did not call ya Liberal, I have been consistently against overregulatiion or legislation from the bench. We usually agree, although you are usually brief n' I always spew hot air. Respectfully JR

Re: Good News for PW2!

I just don't understand how some of you guys think. I don't understand how anybody thinks more legislation of any kind is a good thing. I don't think anyone here thinks their car is going to be taken away, etc.. But I think some people here realize that if you saddle the US engine economy with regulations based on nothing, based on the flawed politically masterminded concept of "global warming" you're headed down a slippery slope. What's next? Restrictions on the number of children you can have? Elimination of cattle ranching (animals emit bunches of CO2). Oh, wait - that's preposterous...or is it? Well, but it doesn't fit the "agenda" so it will never happen...or will it? $1500 airfare because of "green" plane engines? Aren't you all aware of the speed at which China is outpacing our economy? Don't you guys see all the manufacturing plants, and farms, etc. for sale and/or disappearing where you live? I see them everywhere I go. Don't some of you guys remember when things used to be made in this country? Like steel, and textiles, and millwork to name a few? The US passing legislation and regulating CO2 would be like saving a thimble full of water from a burst reservoir. The impact worldwide wouldn't even be measurable without a decimel. And just like everything else, the poor will be exempt or be issued "CO2 stamps", the rich will have lobbyists and high level loopholes, and me, the US economy, and every other regular joe will get pounded. All this just to make a certain demographic "feel good"....ridiculous...

It takes more money out of your pocket, doesn't it bjcsc?

They have accomplished their goal. They want you powerless and broke. They want you dependent on them. Then and only then will they have fully broken the middle class and made them beholding to them.
