I have been waiting on the 5.7 mercruiser/chevy for my 1988 Marlin Ski Mangum and heard back that the engine block is done at the machine shop and crank is standard/standard and bores were honed and will stay standard.

Everything is cleaned and ready to reassemble with new rings and bearings. I have all the gaskets, timing chain and gears, oil pump and lifters. While the weather is delaying my transom and stringer work, at least the drive line is going to be ready to drop back in. I've already had the alternator and distributor tested and both are good.

Thankfully, the water in the cylinders only caused some minor rust and froze the rings. 8 valves had to be replaced and I had a blown head gasket.

I am stoked that I don't have to replace pistons or have the block bored!

Now if I could just order up some warm weather!

Re: Good news

Bought it in that shape, but there was a head gasket blown and a bad riser gasket. I'm replacing exhaust manifolds with new ones and replacing impeller.

Replacement for the transmission cooler is on hand as well. All old hoses had cracks and are being replaced.

PO had scabbed 2x4's onto the stringers and was running and automotive carb which I have a Edelbrock for replacement. Deck was replaced without being glassed and factory foam was supplemented with what appeared to be Great Stuff.

Foam was soaked and all wood was turned to mulch.

I've read so many posts here and have learned a lot. I don't have a whole lot to add to some of the great advice I've seen here. I've restored a ca, a house and overhaauled a few motors over the years, even did some glass work on my old checkmate, but this is . . . challenging.
