I blew my power head on a 96 johnson 150 ocean pro. beside piston ,rings, bearings and machineing the head. what else would be good practices and the norm for a good rebuild job.

Finding out the reason why it blew in the first place and rectifying it......so it doesnt happen again.

Agree with the above. In addition you should also practice having plenty of cash on hand ...

Agree with the others. Find the reason for the failure.
Replace what appears to be worn or actually is worn when measured to the manual. Don't over force anything on the rebuild.

Re: good pratices when rebuilding a outboard

Im not doing the rebuild a professional marina mechanic is doing it. Im sure some mechanics are more professional than others. I just wanting to be informed enough to know what should be done during a normal rebuild on a 16 year old motor ? Like should all new tubing and fuel lines or maybe the vro be replaced . What would be normal good practices . You know things I might not think of because im not knowlegeable enough to do it my self.

If the mechanic is a professional and offers a warranty fuel hoses, VRO/OMS,water pump. t-stats, grey ignition wire update,OEM carb kits should also be included as this is how I would have bid it in my shop...
