Good quality GPS without the cost

HI guys, I know you Americans have all the good stuff over there, but what is a good quality GPS without all the bells and whistles and at a low cost

I am a fan of the Lowrance units,....

Last spring I got a DSI5 with all the bells and whistles for $349.00

Watch for sales is the only advice I have,..

What do you call low cost? $100? $500?
What is in the budget?

Also what do you expect the GPS to do?
Do you want a chart of the area?
Or, is just knowing the dock or the fishing spot is 4.7 miles to the NorthWest good enough?

if you dont want to spend much, and do not care about the ability to read it in direct sunlight, then get the Navionics app for a smart phone and the appropraiate charts for $50.

otherwise your looking to spend about $400-$500 minimum to get you into a decent GPS

if you just want it to check your speed and maybe a few fishing marks a cheap hand held Garmin or similar will do the job, that is what we bought a few years ago and that is used in three different boats, also used it for hunting,
think they start at around $100 for handhelds,
if you mean a chartplotter type, they start at around $300 and just keep going up....and up

You can't beat the GlobalSAT BU-353 for $35.

USGlobalsat Corporate

It is a terrific GPS receiver, very sensitive, and low power consumption.

Thank you all for your input, I really only need it for some local fishing spots, outside of the river, I am thinking a handheld maybe the way to go, but I am also looking at the idea of the USGlobalsat receiver.

Correct me if I am mistaken.... but isn't the globalsat bu-353 a receiver that connects to an existing device that does not have a built in receiver but does have the necessary software and maps?

Correct!
It is only a receiver, there is no display included.
You will need to drag your computer around with you and see your location on Google Earth or other applications.
I don't see the combination being compact or water friendly.

prolly is a good addition to a system that has some type of interference with the built in receiver..............just guessing
