Good short strong rod??

I'm looking for a good rod that's really short. Fishing for striper and sturgeon off a small boat and my 8 foot poles are a pain the mess with. I got one for Christmas, that's 5'6", but I'm not sure if it will break of not. It's only got 4 eye rings, while my buddy's has like 7 on the same length pole. Will this matter with my pole if I hook something big? What's a good short pole to get for this situation? I'd also like to crab with it with the bait boxes and poke pole for eels with it. Basically short, sturdy, and strong rod.

My favorite heavy combo is a Tuna Chaser 5'9" rod with a Penn 340 reel.

We need way more information to pick out a rod for you. The rod I would use for Stripers is entirely different than the rod I would use for a Sturgeon.

The guides distribute the load along the length of the blank. A misplaced guide will concentrate the load at a particular spot on the blank causing a failure. The "general" formula for the number of guides on a rod is 1 guide for every foot of blank plus one. Your 5'-6" rod should have 7 guides on it. You can get away with one or two less on certain blanks, but you better know what you?re doing when you build it.

As far as the length is concerned, the shorter the rod the more leverage you can put on a fish. My tuna rods are built on 50-80# 5-6?, fast action blanks. All my Striper rods are built on 20-30# - 6? , medium action blanks. Entirely different fish, entirely different blanks.

yeah, mine only has 4 guides. So what would this pole be used for? 10-25lb 5'6" and only 4 guides. I don't care if I can't use it for what I wanted, as I'll just keep it to use for whatever it's supposed to be used for.

I'd be just fine striper fishing and sturgeon fishing with the same pole, even if I went with the lighter pole. I've caught sturgeon on cheapo walmart setups with 30 lb mono. But, I would like to step it up a bit. I'd go with a plain old spinning reel on it. Sit on a little boat and wait with some mud/ghost/grass shrimp on your steel leader type of fishing.

a good rod is a seeker.i have one that i use for stripper and wreck fishing.it is rated 15 to 25 lb.line.
