I'm looking to sell an atv I have worth around 4000-4250$. I have been in contact with two people willing to trade their boats plus cash for my ATV but
I'm unsure of how much cash say I need to make the trade even.

First is a 1984 19' Mark twain open bow with a Mercruiser 305 V8, it has 290 hours on it and was owned by an older gentleman who only used it about twice a year. It is supposed to be in immaculate shape and i'll be going to look at it tomorrow. It doesn't have a trailer included.

Second is a 1981 19' Cobalt with a 350 V8. The interior appears to be in decent shape, the captains chair is cracked, the bow seats are cracked a very small amount and the carpet is torn behind the front seats. The owner is asking 3,000 for the boat with a very nice tandem axle trailer with chrome wheels and good tires, good paint, and good carpet.

Here are a few pictures of the cobalt.

Which is a better boat?

Which is going to handle rough water best?

is 3,000$ a good base price for both boats or is the Cobalt worth more than the mark twain because it has the trailer?

The owner of the Mark Twain has not given me a price, he is just interested in a trade so I have to decide how much cash I will need on top of the boat to make the total value of boat and cash around $4,000.

What is a good site on the web to determine values of boats on the web?

Also, I've looked on NADA but the values for every older boat I've seen listed are A LOT lower than what they sell for locally. Some say the value is only $600 but they sell fast for ~$2000. I'm just not sure if I trust NADA for older boats.

Craigs list is a great site to see what people are asking. Location is a big factor in price. What it comes down to really is in your in your mind did you get a good boat at a good price. Because as soon as you pay $1k for something someone buys the exact thing for $700. Also that Cobalt has had some use and looks like some neglect. I think you'd have to put all your profits back into the boat. There aren't many boats sub $2000 that don't need some work. I would want the cash and find my own boat. And NADA is fairly accurate. If you figure that if something happened and the boat was a total loss, what do you think the insurance would pay NADA or local value? So use NADA as your bargaining chip. And now is the time for premium boat prices, I'd wait until September-November when ATV's are at a premium for hunting use and I think you'd get a deal.

I asked the owner of the cobalt if he would allow me to have a professional inspect the boat for wood rot in the transom and stringers and he was no longer interested in selling it to me. He obviously knows there is a problem.

That dark wood in the pic under the torn carpet looks like rot to me.

That was my thought exactly. Being that I had to drive four hours to see it I figured it would be cheaper just to have someone look at it but the owner said no.
